While the RTK Real-Time Kinematic Kit for the Airpeak S1 Drone is designed to provide high-precision positioning using RTK GNSS (Real-Time Kinematic Global Navigation Satellite System), it offers much more than just accurate geotagging. This system, when installed on the aircraft, enables the generation of point cloud data and 3D models with an impressive accuracy within a few centimeters, a significant improvement over GNSS’s few meters accuracy. The positioning information obtained is meticulously recorded as mapping data on an SD card inserted in the interface unit. This data is saved in a format that is compatible with various Structure from Motion (SFM) software, making it a versatile tool for professionals. The timing of image data capture is synchronized with high precision, and the recorded position is offset from the antenna position to the center of the image sensor, ensuring accurate geotagging of images, a feature set to be available in summer 2023.The RTK GNSS also enhances the drone’s self-positioning during both manual and automated flights. This results in improved control of the aircraft, precise operation, and highly accurate reproduction of automated flight paths. The drone’s hovering and flight stability are also significantly improved compared to positioning using only GNSS.The kit includes a base station for ground-based geo-positioning, comprising a remote controller and an antenna unit connected by a USB cable. This base station sends GNSS correction data to the aircraft, ensuring accurate positioning. For added flexibility, the system can also connect to GNSS correction data services via the “Airpeak Flight” mobile app, offering an alternative to the included base station antenna.Designed to operate even in environments with strong magnetic field interference, the kit includes two antenna units for the aircraft. This allows the drone to recognize its heading and maintain flight even when the built-in compass is unusable. The RTK system also supports PPK (Post Processed Kinematic) logging with collected data sets of the platform. It is designed to detect any movement or toppling of the base station, alerting users via a notification on the mobile app if there is a change in the base station’s positioning due to strong winds or accidental bumps.To cater to various user needs, the system allows for dual operation by connecting a second remote controller to the base station. The antenna units for the aircraft are foldable and can be stored with the ARS-S1 without detaching from the aircraft, making it a convenient and compact solution for professionals on the go.
